Auch Bildpunkt. Kleinstes Bildelement bei digitalen Projektionssystemen und Displays. Je höher die Anzahl der Pixel, desto feiner, schärfer und detailreicher ist i.d.R. die mögliche Bildauflösung. Ein Bild nach der Computer-Norm S-VGA hat z.B. 800 x 600 Pixel, besteht also aus 480.000 einzelnen Bildpunkten. Die normale Video-Auflösung in Europa (PAL) beträgt ungefähr 720 x 576 Pixel, auf der Blu-ray Disc sind im Kinoformat 1920 x 1080 Pixel je Bild gespeichert, das sind ca. 2 Millionen Bildpunkte (oder 5x soviel wie PAL).
