Cineast aka Filmnerd is a GHOST AGAIN !

Danke macfestus - ganz toll, was einem hier geboten wird - allein, da die Limited Sarg Edition den gleichen Filminhalt aufweist, aber noch optisch beeindruckender scheint (soweit dies derzeit abschätzbar ist :-)), wirds wohl dieselbe werde.

Egal welche - die hier relevanten Filme gehören einfach in jede Sammlung! Insbesondere in dieselbe eines jeden, der dem Horror-Genre zugeneigt ist.

The Invisible Man looks excellent on Blu-ray as part of the Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection. The image quality has reached a zenith for digital Home theater and the dated effects are charismatically amusing. This is also dual-layered with a high bitrate. Contrast exhibits healthy, rich black levels, and there is some texture and depth. Considering the production limitations of the age it was made this 1080P transfer does a wonderful job of presenting the film. This Blu-ray is solid throughout and has no discernable flaws that I could ascertain.

The Mummy keeps up the standard of the Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection on Blu-ray with an impressive, grain-filled, transfer. It is dual-layered with a high bitrate and has a tinge of green-infiltration in the contrast and shows a very slight amount of noise. Otherwise this looks quite brilliant offering a rich, rewarding presentation. grayscale is exceptional with focus on the ancient artifacts represented in the film. This Blu-ray appears to do its job well in advancing handily over the SD format. Those appreciative of a film-like presentation will enjoy the gritty textures.

Frankenstein:

Frankenstein looks marvelous on Blu-ray from the Universal Monsters Boxset. The image quality showcases the rich grain with solid contrast and even occasional depth. This is dual-layered with a high bitrate for the hour-10-minute classic. The visuals are dark which is probably accurate and detail rises nicely above past SD renderings. The high resolution identifies the wrinkled backdrops but I recall this was also present on the DVD as I'm sure it was in the original theatrical. Daylight scenes (the girl and the flower) seem the most impressive but overall this is without serious flaw. There may be a speckle or two but this Blu-ray has done a great job in processing the 1931 film to 1080P. It provides a stupendous presentation.

This restoration looks marvelous. I wasn't anticipating such a significant jump over the previous SD editions. The 1080P has taken real strides forward with a cleaner, sharper, crisper image with significantly more layered contrast and wonderful thick grain. It is brighter with more information in the frame and the result is far more film-like visuals. Impressive indeed. The below screen captures support the vast improvement.

Heute gekauft und gleich die 3D-Fassung von Creature of the Black Lagoon angesehen.
Es ist der absolute Wahnsinn, was die aus dem alten Film rausgeholt haben.
Der 3D-Effekt ist beeindruckend. Gleich zu Beginn, wenn die Forsche die Kralle freilegen, ragt diese scheinbar mehrere
Zentimeter aus dem Fernseher heraus. Solche Pop-Outs gibt es häufig.
Dazu kommt eine wunderschöne Tiefenwirkung.
Beim ersten Angriff des Monsters auf die zwei Eingeborenen im Zelt, kann man scheinbar direkt in das Zelt tief hineinblicken.
Großartig!
Ghosting, also die unschönen Doppelbilder, trat so gut wie nie auf.
Das Bild ist dazu gestochen scharf. Keine Verschmutzungen oder ähnliches, wie es eigentlich bei einem Film dieses Alters
zu erwarten wäre.
Der Ton in deutsch ist okay. Surround gibt es keinen.
Die englische Tonspur hat aber etwas mehr Dynamik, kommt etwas kräftiger rüber.
Wirklich Standing Ovations für diese Glanzleistung von Universal.

Creature From the Black Lagoon is the odd-duck of the Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection being the only widescreen effort and released over a decade after the last entry; the Technicolor Phantom of the Opera. On Blu-ray it looks quite strong - perhaps a notch below some of the others in the set but I expect that is directly related to production. This was helmed by Jack Arnold and corners were cut here and there. This is also dual-layered with a strong bitrate. Contrast is a shade muddier (not just the underwater sequences) - but consistent and in the correct 1.85:1 aspect ratio. This Blu-ray appears to do its job well from a less-perfectly maintained source than the other seven. It provided a strong presentation.

Phantom of the Opera was shot in Technicolor and the Blu-ray exports its vibrancy far more effectively than SD could. They hues are gorgeous and frequently look extremely impressive in 1080P. The image quality shows some nice film grain and detail is strong. There are no marks or digital noise and contrast is at premium levels. There is some depth, not a lot, but the star is the colors that look just ravishing via HD. This Blu-ray probably looks like the film Phantom of the Opera and it handily advances beyond the last DVD editions.

The Wolf Man:

The Wolf Man on Blu-ray looks the best of the 5 previous I have seen from the Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection. Black levels are pitch in 1080P and the image quality is superb. Like the others, this is dual-layered with a high bitrate. There is a hint of gloss and detail is magnificent. Contrast exports healthy, rich visuals. There is no noise in the many dark nighttime scenes and only a few minor speckles. This Blu-ray has touch of depth and overall looks extremely pleasing.

Wow - does Bride of Frankenstein ever look amazing on Blu-ray from Universal. The image quality shows some grit and grain but contrast supports the endless atmospheric shadows brilliantly. John J. Mescall's cinematography dramatically benefits from the grayscale and contrast layering. Like the other in the Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection this is only dual-layered with a strong bitrate. There is no noise and detail in close-ups is highly impressive. This Blu-ray will make fans of the film and genre extremely pleased. I can't find a flaw in it.
