Lantern director Martin Campbell is in talks to direct
Jackie Chan in the previously-titled The Foreigner
for STX Entertainment. The film, an adaptation of Stephen Leather’s
novel “The Chinaman,” is scheduled to start filming in the fall.
The book is described as follows:
Jungle-skilled, silent and lethal, Nguyen Ngoc Minh had
killed for the Viet Cong and then for the Americans. Imprisoned and
tortured after the Communist victory, he escaped with his wife and
baby daughter to Hong Kong – but only after being forced to watch
Thai pirates rape and kill his two eldest
daughters.
Now the proud owner of the Double Happiness Chinese
takeaway in South London, he watches his daughter grow into a
beautiful young woman, secure in the knowledge that the horrors of
his homeland are finally behind him.
Until the day an IRA bomb in a Knightsbridge store
snatches his family from him in a horrific maelstrom of fire and
glass.
Then, simply but persistently, he began to ask the
authorities who were the men responsible, what was being done. And
was turned away, fobbed off, treated as a
nuisance.
Which was when the Chinaman, denied justice, decided on
revenge. And went back to war.
The book was adapted by David Marconi and Peter Buchman. Wayne
Godfrey is producing.

Jackie Chan in einem Revenge-Thriller, da bin ich ja mal gespannt.
Ein neues Terrain für ihn, mal sehen wie das klappt ohne Slapstick.

hatte der auch, wenn auch auf ernst getrimmt.
Zum neuen Film: Ich verstehe ehrlich gesagt nicht, warum die alten
Männer Hollywoods (und das ist Jackie mit 61 nunmal) neuerdings
anscheinend immer dazu "überredet" werden, irgendwelche
Rachethriller zu drehen. Das hat 1-2 Mal bei dem Neeson geklappt,
aber alles was danach kam ist schon vom Trailer her gähnende
Langeweile.

Trotzdem war's ein sehr ernster und düsterer Film - wollte damit
sagen, dass Jackie keine Probleme mit sowas hat. ;)

Natürlich. Das war für mich aber eigentlich eher ein Chan Police
Story Film mit leichten Drama-Elementen. Einen ernsten Thriller ala
Neeson, in die Richtung gehen eigentlich nur "Stadt der Gewalt" und
der "Police Story 2013".

ich erfreue mich an dieser Art Filme und auch Neeson hat das
Sub-Genre nicht begründet, lediglich wieder aktuell gemacht. Diese
Art Filme gabs schon in den 70ern (Bronson), 80er und 90er. Aktuell
sind Sie halt nur mal wieder etwas massenkompatibler. Ich bin
gespannt, schon allein die Kombination Martin Campbell und Jackie
Chan in einem etwas ernsteren Hollywood-Film finde ich
vielversprechend.

Das waren aber schon keine Thriller mehr, dass sind schon eher
Dramen gewesen. :confused:

Das ist richtig. Ich sage seit Jahren, dass Jackie durchaus im
ernsten Fach überstehen kann. Auch wenn ich seine Comedys
liebe.
Ich glaube aber, dass er das mit dem Neuland auf das Thema
Rachethriller bezog und sowas hat Jackie glaube wirklich noch nicht
gemacht.

Police Story 1 war ne Art Rachethriller, blöd nur dass man im
Deutschen diesen albernen Humor eingebaut hat in der Syncro, weil
im O-Ton ist der Film todernst
