SIDESHOW SEEMS TO HOLD SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR EITHER ANNOUNCEMENT OR DISPLAY AT COMIC CON. IS THERE ANYTHING SPECIAL THAT WE CAN EXPECT FOR THIS YEAR'S EVENT?

Every year we look to bring something special to the show and this year is no exception. Our big announcement is the long-awaited DC deal and is a big development for Sideshow and our artistic and product goals. We'll be showing our new Joker Premium Format figure and I suspect it will be one of the highlights of the show. Our collaborations with Hot Toys and the products that come from that artistic union will be a big hit as well. But I'd also expect that our Legendary Scale Gallery display of figures in approximately 1:2 scale will be the most photographed collection at the entire show. The Sideshow art team has gone to extraordinary lengths to create the absolute seminal representation of some classic characters and I'm thrilled to be showcasing these new pieces at the Con.

Comic-Con: Sideshow's Legendary Collectibles

On the eve of SDCC, Sideshow reveals a new line of high-end statues.

Sideshow Collectibles has been making a slew of announcements this month, revealing new products leading up to Comic-Con and even revealing they've gained the rights to DC's line of characters. That doesn't mean they won't be focusing on their other core franchises at the con, however. Today the company announced an entirely new format aimed at the most discerning of collectors.

This new format is being called Legendary Scale Figures. Similar to Sideshow's Premium Format Figures, these appear to be mixed-media statues featuring a mix of polystone and fabric. The core difference between the two looks to be scale and quality. Sideshow described the Legendary Scale figures, saying "The increased size of Legendary Scale™ Figures provides Sideshow artisans with a larger creative 'canvas,' allowing added detail and realism in sculpture, paint application and costume fabrication. The larger sculptural base creates opportunity for pose realism and greater detail in a character's likeness, facial expression, and defining features, including skin and hair texture, unique markings, and scarring. Similarly, the paint application can be executed with greater precision for more natural shading and subtle textural details. Larger clothing patterns provide opportunity for better fit and accuracy in costuming, including greater authenticity in fabric choices and finishes, and functional pockets, belts, and closures.

Sideshow's Legendary Scale Busts measure in at 1:2 scale. In this case, the company indicated that the Legendary Scale Figures won't necessarily correspond to that scale, but each piece "will share a similar physical size and proportion.

These preview pics show that the Marvel, Star Wars, and Predator franchises are being included, but it's a safe bet other Sideshow mainstays like will added as well. Sideshow's press release specifically mentions Avatar and Lord of the Rings as future contenders.

There's no word on pricing or release date for any of these statues. But with many Premium Format Figures priced at $300 or more, it's a safe bet these statues will inch closer to $1000. Maybe now is a good time for that third mortgage.

Comic-Con: The Joker is Sideshow's First DC Statue

The Clown Prince of Crime kicks off Sideshow's new line of DC collectibles.

Sideshow Collectibles is poised to have a big Comic-Con this year. Last week brought the news that the company had acquired the rights to DC's lineup of heroes and villains. The press release promised statues, deluxe action figures, prints, and other goodies to come. The only question was which characters Sideshow would choose to tackle first.

That question has been answered. But rather than an iconic hero, a villain is kicking off Sideshow's DC lineup. Sideshow provided us with photos of its new Joker Premium Format Figure, which will be on display at SDCC this week.

For those who don't collect Sideshow's other Premium Format Figures, these collectibles are mixed-media statues that are usually designed at 1:4 scale. They feature polystone bodies and cloth outfits and usually measure between 20-25 inches depending on the character.

While no specs or price were given, it's probably safe to assume Joker will cost around $300-350 and will see release either late in 2011 or early in 2012.

Hopefully more details will be revealed at SDCC. For now, feast your eyes on more shots of this impressive statue:

Der Predator ist ultrahawt. 1:2 Scale? Sicher wird der auch preiswert :D

na.. die wohl eher schlechteste für mein Bankkonto :p
Wenn ich nu den Predator sehe, den Joker und wer weiß was noch alles kommt, sollte ich lieber schon gestern mit dem sparen angefangen haben :D
