I know there are a LOT of awesome songs that came out on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 soundtrack today. But for the past hour I've been listening to Tyler Bates - Music For Films musical score for the film, and I'm in tears. It is touching and beautiful and out of all the artists who have created art for all of my films, visually or musically or through performance, this may be the very finest single piece.
Again, there are many amazing songs on the soundtrack, but my favorite single song in the movie, inclusive of the soundtrack songs, is probably "Dad" - but that is only one of many of Tyler's wonderful pieces. You may recognize it as the tune that was playing when I Facebook streamed live from Abbey Road in London, where we recorded the huge symphony.
As many of you know, Tyler creates the score BEFORE we shoot the movie. He writes the music from the script, and we play the music on set while we shoot so the actors and camera crew know exactly the tone we're setting, and so that the music is an organic aspect of the film. The actors often wear ear buds, as do I, so we can record dialogue while the music is playing.
GotG Vol 2 and its music are one. I hope you guys enjoy it and give it a listen, before or after you see the film, whichever you prefer.
