In this interview, Sideshow’s Creative Director shares what’s in
store for horror fans in the years to come!
Oh the horror! Sideshow brings the fear back to fans with new and
upcoming Releases
Exploring the creatures that go bump in the night has always been a
very personal endeavor for Sideshow’s Creative Director, Tom
Gilliland, whose fascination with the horror genre is rooted in the
belief that it offers a very individual experience for each
fan.
“We can all watch a horror movie and be scared, but we’ll all be
scared in a slightly different way. We each relate the fear of that
character to a very real fear from our own life.” Gilliland
explains. “In other genres the villain is part of the story you’re
watching unfold; in horror, he’s really aimed at you. Horror is
truly intended to elicit a response from you. It’s trying to
threaten, and if it succeeds… that’s a really personal
experience.”
While celebrating our 20 year anniversary, Sideshow looks to make a
triumphant return to our roots in this long-favored genre. Here’s a
look at what’s in store:
“Groovy…”
We’ll be kicking things off by reuniting with a cult favorite, Ash
Williams. We’re headed back to that cabin in the woods to celebrate
all the camp and carnage Evil Dead 2 has to offer.
“The fun thing about Evil Dead is it expertly combines horror and
almost slapstick comedy in a perfect blend of fun and shock. I
should be horrified, but somehow I’m laughing my ass off. This is a
great character that offers a depth of detail in costuming and VERY
signature weapons, c’mon…when you chop off a hand to replace it
with a chainsaw? That’s pretty much the ultimate.”
One, two, Freddy’s coming for you…”
Look out for Sideshow’s return to Crystal Lake with more from
Friday the 13th, and a visit from an all too familiar Nightmare in
the near future, as we gear up for fresh reincarnations of the
classic horror slashers.
“I have centuries to discover the things that make you
whimper.”
New on the horizon, we’ll be facing the unforgettably terrifying
leader of the Cenobites, Pinhead. From the groundbreaking
Hellraiser franchise, Sideshow looks forward to tackling this
chilling classic for the first time.
“I think back to when I saw the first [Hellraiser] film, this was a
different breed of horror film. It had this incredible celestial
mythology, a whole hedonistic gone mad religion element, that I’d
never seen before. Pinhead was as psychologically frightening as
physically frightening and completely unapologetic of who he was,
the guy is pretty comfortable in his own skin, or yours…”
Rise, Conquer, Rule!”
Finally, Sideshow is breaking new ground on the horror landscape
with the ever expanding original effort created by Gilliland
himself; Court of the Dead. This year at San Diego Comic-Con we
will proudly host a grand array of morbidly fascinating characters,
while online we delve deeper into this mysterious realm with the
launch of a brand new website at CourtoftheDead.com. We hope to see
you there!
