Das Remake schreitet voran!

New Line Cinema will nach einiger Zeit das Projekt wieder auf die Beine heben. Für das neue Drehbuch ist Allan Loeb (Wall Street 2, 21, Things We Lost in the Fire) verantwortlich. Im Vergleich zum Original wird es folgende Änderungen geben: statt auf dem Präsidenten wird sich die Rettungsaktion diesmal auf einen weiblichen Senator konzentrieren. Außerdem wird Manhattan nicht zerstört sein, sondern ist völlig intakt und wiedererkennbar (der Knast mit den gefährlichsten Verbrechern bleibt aber bestehen). Der Charakter um Snake Plissken wird Dank Carpenter jedoch nicht umgeändert. Carpenter hat einst mit New Line einen Vertrag abgeschlossen der besagt, dass Plissken "Snake" bleiben muss, ein "Bad Ass" mit Augenklappe. Jetzt beginnt die Suche nach einem Star und einem Regisseur.

The Crazies helmer Breck Eisner will direct New Line/Warner Bros. remake Escape From New York.

Gerard Butler had been attached to play Snake Plissken in 2007, but left over creative differences. Plissken is a convict and war hero who's sent into a futuristic Manhattan which has been turned into a giant maximum security prison to rescue the president of the U.S. after his plane is knocked down by terrorists.

The 1981 original starred Kurt Russell and was written and directed by John Carpenter. A follow-up, Escape from L.A., was released in 1996.

The new version mixes an origin story for the anti-hero and merges it with the story of the first film.

The script was written by Ken Nolan, David Kajganich and Allan Loeb. Neal H. Moritz's Original Films and Canal Plus are behind the project.

Breck Eisner's The Crazies hits Blu-ray and DVD next Tuesday and ComingSoon.net got a chance to talk to the director about his next project, New Line/Warner Bros.' update of Escape From New York.

"I'm a huge fan. As a kid, I absolutely loved that movie. And Snake is such a bad-ass," Eisner told us. "The interesting thing about 'Escape from New York' is that it was a comment on the urban decay and the suburban flight coming out of the '70s and early '80s. Conceptually, it's an idea that's not true today because of the world we live in. So, how the prison is created is going to be different than in Carpenter's version. The anxiety of the world and anxiety of our existence post-9/11 is there, especially the anxiety in Manhattan post-9/11. Plot-wise, they're different, emotionally they're very similar. That's why it'll be interesting to tackle this movie, to have a slightly different take but with the same results which is Manhattan is turned into a walled prison."

Eisner added that more work on the script will be done. "I would be surprised if I found a script that I was just ready to make. I'm bringing on another writer this week and we will do a pass on the latest draft by Allan Loeb. We'll be doing a significant pass on that."

John Carpenter's 1981 film starred Kurt Russell. A follow-up, Escape from L.A., was released in 1996.

Wegen den Ereignissen vom 11. Septemper wird es interessant sein diesen Film zu machen, man wird einiges anderes machen, aber mit dem gleichen Ergebniss.
Eisner wäre überrascht, wenn es ein Drehbuch gäbe, das ich bereit wäre zu machen.
Ich verursache einen anderen Schriftsteller in dieser Woche aufzusuchen und der letzte Entwurf wird dann an Allan Loeb übergeben und durch ihn vollendet.

es wäre auch hilfreich, wenn du nicht jedesmal wenn ich news poste, etwas zu bemängeln hättest...vorallem oft unberechtigt! nicht böse gemeint, aber das hat mittlerweile den faden beigeschmack von klugsch.... ;)

die kulisse eines snake plissken filmes muss eigentlich dreckig und kaputt sein.
wenn die das ändern wirds für mich wie die neufassung von james bond, irgendwie in sich kein so schlechter film, aber nunmal etwas andres, gänzlich andres.

Regisseur Breck Eisner gab im Interview bekannt, das Timothy Olyphant (Hitman) ein möglicher Kandidat wäre den Snake Plissken zu Spielen.
Breck Eisner und Timothy Olyphant haben schon am Film The Crazies zusammengearbeitet.

Timothy Olyphant ist ohne Frage ein Hammer Schauspieler. Jedoch sind die Fußstapfen von Kurt Russel denke ich etwas zu groß für Ihn obwohl ich Olyphant seit A perfect Gataway und Hitman sehr gerne sehe.
